Doves
Four-Year-Olds
When children enter the 4’s program at Perseverance Christian Academy, families can trust that their children will be nurtured in the love of Christ as they grow in their readiness for TK, Kindergarten, and beyond!
Our program is designed to meet the individual academic and spiritual needs of each child as they are transformed during this monumental year. Through an exciting curriculum, hands-on activities, a lot of play, and even more joy, children will leave our program ready for the next steps in their academic journey.
Ratio
With a 1:8 teacher-to-child ratio, each child is ensured individual attention and care during this important year of learning and growing. At Perseverance Christian Academy, maintaining a lower-than-state-recommended ratio allows every child to receive care and attention unique to our program.
Daily Activities
Welcome Circle Time
The ideal morning starts with a reminder of the great love our heavenly Father holds for us. Bible reading, scripture memorization, and worship set students and teachers up to keep Christ at the center of our day of learning. We also believe this sets children on a path to put Christ first each morning throughout their lives. [Psalm 5:3]
Outdoor Time
As children run, jump, climb, and play outside, they will stretch large muscle groups, expand gross motor skills, and learn the benefits of monitored risk-taking as they utilize our versatile outdoor space. This time prepares them to focus on their small motor skill-building activities in a more meaningful and attentive way.
Snack
A healthy and organic snack is provided mid-morning to fuel students' brains. As they sit with their peers and socialize, they will experience new foods—some they have even grown and harvested on their own in our outdoor Organic Garden.
Centers
This is an opportunity for children to choose from a variety of educational play options available in the classroom. Dramatic play, tabletop activities, blocks, puzzles, free reading, and more will be available to choose from every day. This is a time for students to make independent choices, manage social situations, utilize fine motor skills, and strengthen the logical side of their brains.
Circle Time
During instructional group time, children will gather under the direction of their teacher to focus on a variety of skills. Teachers will bring engaging activities, questions, and prompts for the children to discuss and experience in group form.
Math
We use Singapore Math as a base curriculum to explore basic math concepts such as counting, matching, ABC patterns, number recognition, sorting, and basic addition. Singapore Math takes a three-step approach (concrete, pictorial, and abstract equations). In the 4’s program, we focus on the concrete phase, which is visual and hands-on.
Literacy
Reading and language development are strengthened through forming a love of stories. Because of this, it is our joy to introduce children to a vast variety of literature. From the Word of God to purposeful books, our teachers will hand-pick stories that will excite children’s hearts as much as their minds. We encourage students to communicate, ask questions, make comments on what they think will happen next, and play games as they engage in both new and familiar stories. These activities will expand their memorization skills as teachers point to familiar, repetitive, and favorite words.
Language
The best way to develop language skills is through speaking. Opportunities for public speaking will be presented daily through share days, acting out stories, fingerplays, and phonics. Each week, the children will learn the phonetics of a new letter which will expand their knowledge of speech, letters, and American Sign Language.
Science
As a group, children will gather to hypothesize, experiment, and discuss the results of a teacher-prompted question. These activities will focus on teaching them the basics of the scientific method via fun and engaging experiments. Questions such as “What do you think will happen when we mix baking soda and vinegar?”, “How do our cookies change when we exchange baking soda for baking powder?”, or “What happens to an egg when it soaks in vinegar versus water?” are just a few of the questions our students will explore throughout the year.
STEAM Lab
In our uniquely designed STEAM lab, children will explore all things hands-on, messy, and creative. Every day will present an art opportunity, a messy/sensory table, and an engineering opportunity. These provocations will allow children to use their minds and hands in ways that reflect our creative God.
